About April and her work

Exploring the world of creative expression is a life long journey.  April's journey began as a child, doodling in class, drawing anything and everything, experimenting with clay, oil paints, mask-making, decorative art, costume and makeup design, water colours, posters, program covers and various illustrations, tossing colouring books aside to create her own paper dolls complete with full designer wardrobes, and later in life returning to her first love - sketching, and learning acrylic paint techniques.  April experiments with various media added to acrylics to create textural pieces, finding ways to play with the reflection of light, using glass beads or translucent paint effects, thinning the paint, thickening it - anything to test new things.  She has used everyday items such as coffee grounds and tea leaves or yarn to create dimensional pieces that demonstrate the fundamentals of reusing or repurposing items.

As an artist, April also experiments with colour intensity and monochromatic themes.  Using sepia or grey, she seeks to create emotion in the absence of colour.  Or applying child-like bright colour to a painting that represents a serious social issue, she creates a playful first glimpse of a deeper message, whether fighting homphobia, misogyny or ageism, April interprets the world through her art and attempts to create a message in addition to utilising her training and skills as an artist.

Many of the pieces on this site are available to purchase.  Some have been sold but have been added here to give a more complete review of April's body of work.  She also welcomes commissions:  portraits, pet portraits, landscapes, cityscapes, abstracts, or murals for interior decor.

Each piece is priced individually.  If you are interested in purchasing one that catches your eye, or wish to have some work done for you such as a portrait of the kids for Grandma's birthday or a mural in your toddlers' bedroom, please go to the Contact page.
